Tsutsumi Hozan-ryu jujutsu is a complete system of heiho or martial strategy, involving a range of weapon arts that are integrated with unarmed tactics and techniques to provide a highly effective and adaptable system of fighting.

Tsutsumi Hozan-ryu jujutsu is highly regarded for the range and depth of its curriculum:

kansetsu-waza (joint technique)

taoshi-waza (takedown technique)

nage-waza (throwing technique)

renraku-waza (connection technique)

atemi-waza (striking technique)

The ryu* contains an extensive set of sutemi-waza (sacrifice technique), and rare hojojutsu-waza (tying art technique). Tsutsumi Hozan-ryu jujutsu specialises in jojutsu (stick art), encompassing jo (four foot stick), hanbo (three foot stick), and tanbo (short stick) techniques and tactics. Kusari fundojutsu (weighted chain art) is another highly effective, yet rare weapon art favoured by Tsutsumi Hozan-ryu senior instructors and practitioners.
